The good folks over at WorldFishingNetwork.com posted some good ice fishing tips that we like:

1. Remove that fishy smell by running your wet hands over stainless steel: a piece of cutlery, faucet, or steel surface will do. (Don’t do it on the lake though, unless you want to lose a layer of skin!)

2. Apply beeswax to prevent the ends of your fishing rods from sticking together.

3. Run a newly-spooled reel under hot tap water for a minute to prevent new line from tangling.

4. Use a magnetic milk bag snipper from the grocery store to cut through braided fishing line.

5. If you can’t dispose of fish guts immediately, double-bag it and store in a freezer to prevent the bad odor.

6. Release the drag on your spinning reels when you store them for long periods: the tension can cause springs to loosen.

7. Thread a safety pin through the eyes of your fishing hooks to keep them tidy.

If you’re interested in buying fresh, local produce or growing your own, why not head down to the Grown by the Bay Food Festival this Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Parry Sound High School, from 9 to 4 PM. There will be workshops all day on how to grow your own food, and an indoor farmer’s market where you can meet local producers.

Admission is free, but donations to Harvest Share are appreciated.

On Sunday, join the “Magical McKellar Farm Tour” to experience local food production first hand. Tour space is limited, so contact the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve at 705-774-0978 to reserve your spot on the bus for $5.

At Shebe Resort winters are more thrilling & less chilling, cool crisp days and sparkling nights with a blanket of white snow a warm cozy fire, the peace and serenity of winter. We’re sorry to see summer go, but at Shebe Resort, we’re excited about the upcoming winter season and the opportunities for having fun around Lake Shebeshekong. Not only is there plenty to do, but we’re sure you’ll enjoy our special winter rates as well. Here’s our top 7 winter activities at Lake Shebeshekong…

Snowmobiling

Shebe Resort is located 2 minutes from the OFSC Trans-Provincial Snowmobile Trails in District 10, offering easy direct access to beautifully groomed wide trails leading to many small villages and towns. Bring your own sleds or we can arrange a rental. If you are a little more adventurous we will be offering guided tours as well.

Ice Fishing

Add excitement to your winter get-away, try your luck ice fishing for walleye, crappy and pike. We will shuttle you out onto the ice via snowmobile, auger your holes and set you up with all of the gear needed for an enjoyable day on the ice. We will also have a warming shelter set up when needed at no extra cost to our guests…So come out and give it a try!!!

Cross Country Skiing

If ice fishing is not you game why not give cross country skiing a try on the more than 30Km of trails winding through lush forest. You will have access to some of the best cross country skiing in the Near North. Ski sets are available on request.

Ice Skating

Let’s not forget ice skating. We have a newly constructed ice rink in the township, only 5 minutes away from the resort. It has heated dressing rooms and is open to the public…so why not come out for a family skate or a game of shinny!!!

Snowshoeing

This is a great way to enjoy the trails and take in nature, without getting in over your head! Snow shoe rentals are available.

Sliding

There’s some good hills around Shebe Resort, so bring a toboggan or anything you can slide on and get ready for some fun!

Relaxing by the fire

After a busy day of playing in our winter wonderland you can head back to the comforts of your winterized cottages and warm up and relax by the cozy fire place!!!

There are big changes underway at Shebe Resorts. In our efforts to improve your vacation experience, we have opened our cottages to co-op ownership. This means that each cottage will be owned by private individuals, but made available for most of the year for vacation rentals, as usual.

As you may know, several of the cottages are already privately owned, and these cottages are generally the best equipped, most comfortable and the hottest rentals. Private owners add their own style and enhancements to the surroundings, and we believe this will add exciting variety to your rental experience and improve the quality of amenities across the board.

We hope you will visit us again this year and experience the improved Shebe Resorts, and we invite you to check our newly redesigned website in the coming months to see what exciting changes are coming to your favorite cottage.

If you are interested in becoming an owner, we still have cottages available, starting at the great low price of $99,000. Multiple investors in a cottage are welcome, but each cottage will have one principal owner.

As an owner, you would still enjoy all the same Shebe Resort benefits as rental guests: we take care of the details so that your vacation starts the moment you arrive – you don’t need to waste time cutting the lawn or shoveling snow (did you know we have winterized cottages available?). But as an owner, there’s the added benefit of peace of mind. You don’t need to worry about the cottage when you’re not around, because Shebe Resort management is on-site around the clock to watch over your cottage.

For more information, please contact Mitch at 1-866-747-7776. Thank you for your time, and we hope to see you soon!
